Bloodrock - Bloodrock 2

Sort of a proto-doom version of Sugerloaf in the vaguest possible way, Bloodrock formed in the late 60s in Fort Worth, Texas, home of the infamous Speelunker's Cave...anyway, the main reason to listen to this record is the track D.O.A., the scariest fucking song I had ever heard before the age of 15. Not to prepare you, but it would make an excellent soundtrack for that Best Of Gory Driver's Ed Films video you ordered but are too afraid to actually watch. After all, it's time to face your fear, kiddo...

Blue Öyster Cult - One With Godzilla

I never know what's going to grab my fancy(pants) when it's time to post something...and whatever you do, save track two for last unless you really want to hear what sounds like BÖC's attempt at a Gene Simmons solo album track right fucking now...

Bless their li'l hearts!

"Angry Psychedelia" - The Stranglers

The first article I ever read that sort of rounded up all the popular "punk rock" bands in England in '77-'78 described The Stranglers as "been around too long to be punk" and as an "angry psychedelic band". Naturally I had to check them out and the first record of theirs I came across was Black & White. Immediately blown away, I think I even bought an 8-track of it. I later found out that their reputation was way worse than any punk band bar the Sex Pistols but The Stranglers had been nastier longer. This music has balls and they're dangling perilously close to your face...

The Stranglers were also a great pop band.

The Lemmy (& Stacia) Years; Humpdaze With Hawkwind - Silver Machine & BBC 1972

From vinyl, my copy of Silver Machine. This was a HIT RECORD.

Awesome live-in-studio recording of the Space Ritual show before it hit the road...

You only get covered if you have a hit...

Godly Death Metal - Lykathea Aflame - ELveneFris (Another Xmass Post)

JGD of The Living Doorway had this to say about the subject of today's post- "Lykathea Aflame's Elvenefris is an absolutely colossal maelstrom of godly death metal, and something I've been borderline obsessed with since I first heard it...I honestly don't even want to try to describe the million little intricacies that make this such an amazing release. Just listen, and get lost in 72 minutes of some of the most intense, emotive, brutal, and beautiful death metal you've ever heard". I would concur and add that if perhaps Rush had gone ahead and really fallen into that black hole they were always singing about and emerged somewhere on the other side of the universe so infused with cosmic energy that their musical and intellectual capabilities made it possible to traverse the ungodly millions of light years required to return reborn to Earth in a matter of two or three decades, they would then have unveiled the wonders of their newfound interstellar wisdom in the form of this record. And lo, the album title had the word ELF in it...

I hate elves. I like elf owls, though...

Wormed - Technical Space Slam Xmass

My idea of a Xmasstime post; two releases from Technical Space Slam band Wormed. "Technical Space Slam" is music that undulates as it wreaks havoc and seems to originate at the quantum level, nearing absolute zero, when matter returns to a primordial anything-can-happen-now state, or something like that. Cold, calamitous and beautiful is Xmass, right? Look at the lovely green color scheme on both covers- Xmass! Plus the cover design below is dominated by what appears to be a multi-dimensional tree ornament...

Tunnel Of Ions

May I suggest a hypersphere for a tree-topper?...

Oh yeah, and my cat got wormed at the vet today!

Black Sabbath - War Pigs 2005

Bill looks scary without facial hair, but even scarier in red tights...

I've been feeling crappy the past couple of days and I just spent all night watching Sabbath videos on youtube as a sort of aural chicken soup, so comforting...anyway, thought I'd share this one, an outdoor concert in front of tens of thousands of people of all ages is a perfect setting for "War Pigs". Yes, I'm still stoked about the 2012 reunion...

Again, scary...

Wooden Stake - You're Traditionally Doomed

I'm posting a few Wooden Stake releases just because I love Vanessa Nocera's voice, the fact that it's surrounded by ok-to-excellent old school doom metal makes it a dream come true...

The Lemmy (& Stacia) Years; Humpdaze With Hawkwind - Doremi Fasol Latido

The very first record I heard the very first time I learned how to inhale properly was Hawkwind's In Search Of Space, which explains a lot about me, not that anyone's asking. That one's been showing up on a lot of doom blogs lately so for that reason and one other I'm skipping it in favor of posting Doremi Fasol Latido, their third album and the first to feature Ian "Lemmy" KIlmister on bass guitar.  Then every Wednesday for the next few weeks I'll be posting more classic Hawkwind records from an era before the band lost it's two best-looking members ever...
